Driving home yesterday (on a dry, four lane highway) when suddenly the VTM-4 light came on, as well as the check engine light. I was driving about 55-60 mph. I pulled over, turned the engine off, then back on. The VTM-4 light went off (and has not come back on) but the check engine light has remained on.

I'm just seeing this thread for the first time, but I was going to comment that it could either be a failure in the VTM-4 system OR a different failure that has disabled the VTM-4 system causing the light to illuminate. In your case, it was obviously the latter.
